Justin Rowe
Justin Rowe

The sculpture can arise organically from an image within the book, or the book can be the ‘canvas’ on which I depict my imagined world. My work is about bringing books and literature to life with craft and imagination, the celebration of the book as an ‘object’.’

Based just outside Cambridge, Justin Rowe studied for a BA in Cultural Studies at the Norwich School of Art and Design in the late nineties.

Books are the source for all of his work, which are cut free-hand with a scalpel and assembled with gum Arabic. Some pieces feature Gold or Palladium leaf, found imagery and lights. The source book is usually the inspiration for a piece.

Justin is currently in negotiations with the publisher Hodder to produce a pop-up book.
