Jenny Eadon

Cambridge based artist Jenny Eadon’s paintings, through their multiple layers of colour and line, emulate the complicated processes involved when we think of a person or place, listen to music or read a poem.  Each painting is building a history showing the strata, in paint and line, of tracks crossing and re-crossing, being connected, interconnected and cross-referenced, of being divided, separated and split away from.  Subsequent layers are influenced or changed by traces underneath, what has gone before marking what comes after.

The most recent work comes from visual images invoked when reading poetry,  specifically T.S. Eliot’s ‘Usk’,  ‘Prufrock’  and ‘The Wasteland’,  when  the essence of the words,  filtered through the artist, seek to find a metaphoric equivalent on the canvas  within the components of  form,  colour and space.

Other paintings show the inner landscape made by impressions and memories associated with specific places visited; they order the jumbled mosaic of recollections by putting down the defining connotations of a place and expressing the particular colours, shapes, mood and sensations experienced there.  A painting may be about a specific place but is mediated through the artists’ own elective process.
